Crossroads Middle School students and staff installed birdfeeders behind the school near Mrs. Bosley’s classroom window on Mar. 10. They had help with this from Bryan Shumaker, the Coordinator of STEM, and Mary Hoy, an instructional assistant from Outdoor School.

Mr. Shumaker and Ms. Hoy gave the students field guides and taught them how to use them to help identify different species of birds that would be using the feeders. They also took the students around the property on a short nature walk and checked some of the other birdfeeders.

During this activity, Ms. Hoy played owl sounds to see if any birds nearby would respond.

The bird feeder will attract birds throughout the year and the students will continue to identify the birds that visit the feeder. Crossroads students will be responsible for keeping the feeder full to allow this to happen regularly.
