The Extension of Lamar Jackson

Devin Black, Staff Reporter

On April 17, 2023, Lamar Jackson agreed to a five-year extension with the Baltimore Ravens making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

The contract extension is a cost of $280 million with $185 million guaranteed which means Jackson will continue to stay as a Raven for the next five years.

Previously, Jackson requested a trade from the Ravens because they couldn’t meet his needs.

Jackson tried to work out some deals with other teams in the league but was unsuccessful because he did not have an agent.

Despite all the rumors surrounding his inability to get a contract extension, he was finally able to.

“I know coming in as a rookie, an agent doesn’t really negotiate anything,” Jackson said.

A factor in Jackson wanting to stay a Raven is the addition of Odell Beckham, Jr. to the Raven’s roster.

According to NBC Sports, Jackson said, “I think I told someone like man I wanna throw for like 6,000 yards with the weapons we have.”

There are mixed feelings about this extension of Lamar Jackson. Some people like the extension and others think the Ravens are paying him too much. I’m glad that he is still a Raven, as he is my favorite player.
