Welcome
Welcome to the wonderful world of Crossroads! Full of G-days, Scholar Dollars, and the Evil Queen Brown. What are G-days? How do you level up? Who is this evil queen? Allow me to be your tour guide to Crossroads Middle School so you can learn about these things and more.
The Behavior Report
There are so many details that new Crossroads students need to know but may not. The first thing Crossroads students should know about the program is how the leveling system works, which is different than the Gateway level system. It takes longer to level up because once a level is reached your consecutive successful day count starts over. So, it takes 5 days to reach level one then you need 10 more to reach level 2 and so on. Something else that’s different about the crossroads behavior report or “BR” is something called “Scholar Dollars.” Scholar Dollars are fake money that students can earn for going above and beyond, like helping a peer or doing something out of their comfort zones, etc. Ms. Brown also offers the Scholar Dollars for speaking Cherokee. She says, “one-hundred dollars a day for each word!”
Evil Queen Brown
Speaking of Ms. Brown, most people know her as the “Evil Queen,” although she’s not really evil, she just means business. She is dedicated to helping students do better and be the best possible versions of themselves. She has some really good ideas for improving the program, too. One thing she would like to do would be school visits in student’s comprehensive middle school as part of the transition back to their school, so it seems less scary and intimidating.
G-Days
There are some pretty cool incentives for students who are enrolled at Crossroads. What’s G-day? G-day is a once-a-week privilege usually held on Fridays. It is called G-day because the person who plans the activities in named Mr. Georgiana, although everyone calls him Mr. G or simply “G.” Students with all work completed and who have good attendance and behavior are allowed to participate. That means no referrals and work to catch up on. Activities can be anything from volleyball, kickball, bocce ball, to badminton. Sometimes Mr. G makes up a game because he’s a creative jokester. He also happens to be the Crossroads PE and health teacher.
My Impressions
Overall, Crossroads is a fun program to be in and it helped me more than my home school. I made tons of friends and I feel like I learned more during my time at Crossroads because of how kind and helpful everyone is. Those are some things you need to know about Crossroads. Good luck!
