Students have once again been given the opportunity to be rewarded for doing the right things. The most recent incentive is to play PlayStation 4 and VR games at school with Mr. Banks.
To be deemed worthy of participation a student must go through that whole week without any referrals, must be passing all classes with all C’s, have an 80% attendance rate, and all successful days that week.
The first two students who achieved this reward was Bobby Carter and Carter Espinosa, who took each other on in a close game of Madden.
Mr. Banks is also willing to take on challengers and even said he would get whoever beats him a lunch. Mr. Banks expressed extreme confidence in his 2K and Madden skills saying, “to be honest man, I play the game, I don’t think to many people can beat me.” If you are just as confident in your Madden and 2K skills as Mr. Banks, this is a good opportunity to test them and maybe even get some free food.
The purpose of this activity is to add extra incentive and motivation to come to school and do what you’re supposed to. Mr. Banks said, “here at Gateway it’s hard for kids to see the positive in what they’re doing right away, so I’m trying to give them positive reinforcement right away so they can see I do the work I get a reward.” Mr. Banks hopes by giving shorter-term rewards it will motivate the student to do right and take things one step at a time.
Mr. Banks also wants to give an opportunity to students who don’t have things like this at home to have access to them. This is also done to give these students an incentive to come to school and improve attendance rates. Since these are things Mr. Banks and other students enjoy doing in their free time Mr. Banks thinks it should be an enticing prospect for other students.
Mr. Banks hopes to expand the variety of games available for students to play. Currently Madden 22, and 2K22, are available for students to play on PlayStation. He also has a VR racing drive club game and ATV racing game and hopes to expand the library of games available. He also wants to expand the variety of types of games to cater to more students interested in playing other types of games. If you have any suggestions talk to Mr. Banks to get a request in.
Mr. Banks and the rest of Gateway staff want students to keep doing what they’re supposed to be doing for the rest of the year and finish strong. Mr. Banks wants to see what everybody’s skills are about, so if you’re feeling up to it and have sufficient credentials come stop by and test your skills.
Mr. Banks said in a challenging tone, “Everyone says they can play; I want to make sure everybody can play.”
If you want to prove yourself then stop by his office on Friday. If any students need additional support finishing the year Mr. Banks is willing to help any students who come searching for it.
