Gateway/Crossroads is very lucky to have such a kind and caring person as Mrs. Haines as a permanent substitute. Mrs. Haines, who describes herself as kind, flexible, organized, a team player, and empathetic, is more than that–she is a magical unicorn.
Before Mrs. Haines became our permanent substitute, she was a nurse for 40 years. She also taught at Carroll Community College. Mrs. Haines started at Gateway in Nov. 2022. She was interested in working here because she always liked working with children.
Mrs. Reed can attest to how well Mrs. Haines works with students. She said, “Mrs. Haines is kind because she has a good heart. She never raises her voice. Shes is always gentle when she approaches a student.”
Mrs. Barnard, the registrar, also praised Mrs. Haines because she is very dependable. “She’s always willing to help cover wherever we need it, no matter what the situation is,” Ms. Barnard said.
On a personal note, she is a widow and has three grown sons. One of the sons lives in North Carolina and the other two are in Maryland. Mrs. Haines has a daughter-in-law and three sisters; she is the oldest. She wants to continue helping people and she likes outreach with her church, and she even sings in choir.
The staff and students are very lucky to have such a kind and caring person as a consistent presence at our school and it is very apparent that this is the right place for her. She has a lot of empathy, works well with people, and is very organized.
Thank goodness this magical human is at Gateway/Crossroads.
