A Great Day for the GSA

Ben Slaterbeck, Staff Reporter

Have you heard? There’s a new club at Gateway! Members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies are all welcome to join the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) club.

Led by our newest staff member, Ms. Stewart, GSA is here to offer a safe space for those in the LGBTQ+ community and allies to talk to each other and make friends. GSA will also be used to inform the rest of the staff and students about the LGBTQ+ community and events related to it. Anyone can join.

Ms. Stewart began working at Gateway this year and saw that there was no GSA, so she decided to fix that. She had previous experience as a co-advisor for the Westminster High GSA for two years. Ms. Stewart explained that she really enjoys being able to provide a safe space for students. Additionally, by having a GSA club at Gateway, some students might have an easier time transitioning back to their home school environments, especially if that school also has a GSA club.

For students or parents who want to encourage their kids to join, GSA meets every Thursday during Flex with Ms. Stewart.
