The Undisputed Teaching Champion of the Week is an award to any adult in our building that has a positive impact on our school and community.
During the pandemic, our assistant principal, Mr. Jones, was at a different school and was tasked with producing something to boost staff morale. “I was a wrestling fan as a kid. I always thought that belt and being the champion was kind of cool. So, I designed a belt at that high school, and it was very successful,” Mr. Jones said. The belt has been well-received at Gateway/Crossroads since it was introduced a few weeks ago.
If you look at the belt itself, it is made up of five plates. The center plate is the largest and has the updated Gateway logo, that was designed by Mr. Herron a few months ago (shout out Mr. Herron for the cool logo!) surrounded by the UTC title. The next two side plates are of the CCPS logo and two graduating students, as that is our goal for everyone in the building. The last two side plates are of the earlier Gateway logos, one that says GC and the very first logo the full Griffin creature.
Mrs. Murphy was our first Undisputed Teaching Champion of this year and very well-deserved at that. Mr. Jones said that Mrs. Murphy is a valuable part of the Gateway staff as she is proactive and understanding. “One thing I like as an administrator, if someone comes to me with a problem, that they also have a solution in mind, and she does that as well. She’s proactive in terms of her educational approach to support students, if she notices a student start to slip a little bit, she puts the work in right there,” Mr. Jones said.
Ms. Carver also had great things to say about Mrs. Murphy. “She works really hard to break things down and to chunk assignments to make it easier for students to approach,” she said.
Mrs. Murphy is not just an awesome teacher, but also a great coworker. “She’s great as a friend and as a coworker to … share ideas” and is “just somebody who you know is always on your side and will help you anytime you need it,” Mr. Clements shared.
In addition to Mrs. Murphy, several other staff members have been recognized as the Teaching Champion of the Week:
We will see who gets the honor of wearing the belt next!
If you are a staff member and see another staff member who is worthy of being the Undisputed Teaching Champion of the Week, email Mr. Jones at [email protected]. If you are a student who wants to give a staff member recognition, please fill out a Staff Griffin coupon (on the goldenrod-colored paper) located outside the office doors and drop it in the bin on Ms. Brady’s desk.
